Working with custom maps

One thing that makes Marble Arena 2 special is the ability to create your own maps and post them on the website, for other people to download and enjoy.

Let’s learn the basics about getting and sharing custom maps.

1. Installing custom maps

After you’ve downloaded a map from the website, you need to put it in the right location for the game to see it and allow you to play it. To get there there are a few simple things you need to do:

  • - Start the game launcher and there, on Mac simply click on “Show user game files”, and on Windows and Linux go to Configure Game and click on “View game files”. This should open up the game’s data folder.
  • - Navigate to packages/base/custom. If this folder doesn’t exist, you’ll need to manually create it.
  • - Extract the contents of the archive you’ve downloaded in the “packages/base/custom” folder
  • - Run the game and once it finishes loading, hit Esc to bring up the main menu. Select “Play another level” from there.
  • - Go to the “Custom” tab and the new level you’ve just downloaded and installed should be there. Click on it.
  • - Enjoy !

2. Sharing your custom maps

We can’t wait to see your creations so here’s a short guide to help you share.

  • - Go to the “packages/base/custom” folder, like described above.
  • - You should find your map here, everything neatly in one folder, named by you when you saved your level.
  • - Zip this folder head to our website
  • - Login, and from the top toolbar that appears once you login, select “Add New” -> “Map”
  • - If you’re at all familiar with WordPress, then you should know what to do. Write a title, a brief description, include the archive using the “Add Media” button, maybe add a few screenshots and a featured image.
  • - Click “Submit for review” and we’ll take it from there. We’ll check your level and fix any small things that may be there, then approve it.

If you have problems installing a downloaded map, please don’t hesitate to let us know !
